Located in downtown Vancouver, the Capilano Main Number (No.) 5 – Stanley Park Water Supply Tunnel (Project) consists of a 1,495-metre (m)-long, 2591 mm internal diameter (ID) water main. The Project also consists of the construction of a new valve chamber and three new flowmeter chambers at Chilco Street (near the existing disinfection station) and a new valve chamber at the Burrard Inlet area (near the existing First Narrows South Shaft and valve chambers).
Most of the pipeline alignment is inside a road right-of-way and runs through Stanley Park, residential areas, business corridors, and arterial roads. Challenges are associated with designing large watermains in urban areas.
Integral Engineering scope of Work consists of structural design and structural construction services for large reinforced concrete underground chambers in high water table and under highway loading. The list of the chambers as follow:
17 m x 9.5 m x 7 m deep Burrard Valve Chamber, 22 m x 15 m x 7 m deep Chilco Valve Chamber, 13 m x 6 m x 3 m height Generator/electrical building, CA4 Flowmeter Chamber, CA5 Flowmeter Chamber, COV Flowmeter Chamber, South Shaft Cap Tie-in and miscellaneous and auxiliary structures.
